Review: My 6 year old loved reading these poems aloud and I’m sure that younger children would appreciate them too. Full of seasonal imagery that children can identify with. A great collection.

Review: A rather special book that is as much a pleasure to read for us as it is our 4 year old. We were looking for more books around nature, and of course were familiar with Shirley's other work such as the Alfie series (which tbh I have found to be a little hit and miss). We are quite critical when it comes to literature for our children as there is just so much tat out there, with the focus seemingly more on illustration than writing quality, however clearly her work is the real deal. The combination of simple descriptive language and wonderful, timeless illustration walks children through the seasons in simple, every day scenarios they can relate to. Perfect for bite-sized chunks at any time of the day (but in particular bed time), I cannot recommend this uniquely British collection enough. Purchased in conjunction with the equally excellentA First Book of Nature by Nicola Davies, which we also recommend.
