Review: I knew my class needed something more than they were getting to make them the learners I wanted them to be. As part of CPD we had Becky come and do some INSET with us last year and I knew a little about the Learning Power Approach but at the time I wasn’t ready to embrace it fully. Fast forward to now and I knew that the LPA was precisely what was needed to get my class and I moving forwards together. This book roots itself in the theory of the LPA and gives practical examples of how to develop the different parts of it with your class. You can dip into the bits that will make the greatest difference for you or read the whole book cover to cover. It has thought provoking questions along the way to help you reflect on your own practice and what is happening in your classroom as well as support for when things don’t go according to plan. I have been stuck trying to move my children forward in accepting challenge and deepening their learning, they are able to work independently but they are reluctant to push themselves. This book has helped me to get out of my ‘learning pit’ and make tweaks to my practice to change the way we approach challenge. My classroom is already a very different place to be and we are all flexing our ‘learning muscles’.

Review: Teachers, this will become your go-to text book. It will shape the way you think about your pupils, your planning and your assessment. But most of all, if you can embody the ethos of this book into your practice, it will influence learners in such a positive way. It makes you think differently. It makes you remember why you became an educator. This is not an aid to get through the curriculum (though it does help), this is a guide so that can enable your class to become independent, resilient, creative and purposeful citizens of the world.
