Review: I was asked if I’d like to review Rainbow Magic: Zainab the Squishy Toy Fairy by Daisy Meadows, and I said yes. I knew my girls would love this as they’ve enjoyed reading the other Rainbow Magic books. In total, there are 80 pages and the given reading age for this book is 5 to 8 years old. Kirsty and Rachel are best friends, they’ve made friends with a lot of fairies that need their help in looking for their magical objects that Jack Frost and his goblins steal. I’m not going to go into detail about each story as that will spoil it for anyone that wants to read them. The author, Daisy Meadows, has created lovely little stories, and as usual has some lovely black and white illustrations. At the front of the book, there’s a black and white map of where all the places are situated and then after that you’ll find Jack Frost’s Spell. Then at the end of the book, you’re given a sneak peek of another book by the author, “Ivy the Worry Fairy.” My eldest had no problem reading this to her younger sister. They are now looking forward to reading another fairy book. :-) I can highly recommend this book. :-)

Review: My two girls enjoyed reading this books independently (age almost 6 and 7). They like this series and this book appealed to them with squishes, teddies and fairies. I find the books lack much literary merit, they are simple in structure, vocabulary is not challenging and each book seems to follow quite a similar 'recipe' but as an easy read for early readers with the odd picture, decent sized text and an easy to follow story line they are ok. I am sure we will keep accumulating more of these books simply because my girls like them and I just want them to read!
