Review: Usually I don't preorder colouring books because I tend to like seeing the illustrations before making a purchase to make sure that I will enjoy using the book, but as I am a HUGE Roald Dahl fan, I figured that if I was going to preorder something without a preview, this would be the perfect book for it! When the post came today, I was thrilled...but when I opened the book to look through the pictures, I was very disappointed. What I expected is vastly different than the actual contents. I wasn't expecting Quentin Blake illustrations to colour, but I *was* expecting a book chock-full of illustrations depicting scenes from some of Roald Dahl's most iconic works. Though there are a few pictures that do fit the bill, there are far more drawings that seem to be very generic, such as repeating patterns and wallpaper-style illustrations that look similar to those I have seen in other adult colouring books. They are very well done and the line drawings are incredibly detailed and high quality, but they just don't feel like illustrations that would be unique to a colouring book that is supposed to be Roald Dahl themed. The paper quality seems fairly decent, though a bit thinner than some of the books I own. I can't offer any more insight on this aspect of the book since I've not coloured in it (at the moment, I am still unsure if I am going to keep it or not), but since the illustrations are only on one side of each page with only a description on the back, it seems you'd be safe to use any medium including markers as long as you used a piece of paper between pages just in case of bleeding! Since the book *does* have quality illustrations and seems to have good quality paper, I am going to rate it three stars. However, I personally cannot rate it higher because overall, the content seems a bit generic and lacking in relation to the theme.
