Review: A great read, spot on with the facts and I know, I was there. James has captured the pluses and minuses of a very difficult project, built at a time when the UK car industry was not at its best. It's the definitive story, just like his other Rover histories. You can buy and read with the confidence that this true story has been well articulated.

Review: Having been fortunate to have been one of the few company-outsiders to be shown the impressive full-size styling model of the Rover 800 by Harold Musgrove and Roy Axe in 1982, I followed the development of the car with great interest, not least because one of the key project leaders was a close friend and former work colleague of mine. I was also an early purchaser of the 800 and bought the book to learn more of its product development programme, details of the trials and tribulations of the cultural relationship between Rover and Honda, and the manner of the resolution of the manufacturing and assembly concerns later encountered at Cowley. I was more than disappointed with the book as the content I hoped for seems little more than a precis of the historical facts. In the main 'Rover 800 Series - the complete story' is less that and more a regurgitation of car magazine reviews, lists of specifications, prices and other promotional material, press photographs of the car's exterior, interior, and engine bay. Greater research through interviews with the key surviving participants would have brought about better results. A handsome glossy volume which does not live up to its appearance.
