Review: The idea behind this is a good one, but I found there are only a couple of the sheets in this book that I can use with my SEN students so it was not good value for my purpose. My main concern is the use of Americanisms, which would need explaining and so make the tasks more complicated than they need to be - peanut butter sandwiches, 'dirt' instead of 'soil', 'Jack o Lantern','set the gift in the box' instead of 'put the present in the box','mom' not 'mum' etc. My next issue (probably over cautious, but still...)is one of safety. One of the instructions (and they are instructions, not stories despite the title)asks children to make a mask by putting a bag on their head - this may be fine in the US where they mainly use paper bags, but over here we mainly use plastic bags! Cutting pumpkins, opening tins, taking a bath all without any sign of an adult in the pictures are a little disconcerting for me to use with SEN students with developmental delay. I ended up taking the template but making my own instructions (eg how to build a snowman)so it hasn't worked as a time saver.

Ellen Lark is unforgettable' Emilia Hart, author of Weyward' Illuminating. beautifully written' Priscilla Morris, Women's Prize Shortlisted author of Black Butterflies' Fantastic. Shines a light into a hidden corner of history' Louise Hare author of This Lovely City and Miss Aldridge Regrets Ellen Lark is on the verge of marriage when she and her fiancé receive an unexpected visit from Alexander Graham Bell. Ellen knows immediately what Bell really wants from her. Ellen is deaf, and for a time was Bell's student in a technique called Visible Speech. As he instructed her in speaking, Bell also confided in her about his dream of producing a device which would transmit the human voice along a wire: the telephone. Now, on the cusp of wealth and renown, Bell wants Ellen to speak up in support of his claim to the patent to the telephone, which is being challenged by rivals. But Ellen has a different story to tell: that of how Bell betrayed her, and other deaf pupils, in pursuit of ambition and personal gain, and cut Ellen off from a community in which she had come to feel truly at home. It is a story no one around Ellen seems to want to hear - but there may never be a more important time for her to tell it. • Waterstones Give it to Moore; He Will Score!

    Price: £25.00

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: Give it to Moore, He Will Score! is the authorised biography of footballing icon Ian Storey-Moore, Nottingham Forest's legendary forward of the 1960s and early 70s. Scoring more than 100 top-flight goals for Forest, he became the most sought-after striker in the land. An England international, injury robbed him of numerous caps and a place at the Mexico 1970 World Cup. Moore's sensational on-off transfer to Derby County for a British record fee was front-page news and left Brian Clough unable to speak to him for two decades. Joining Manchester United instead, he played alongside Best, Law and Charlton before sampling life in the nascent US soccer scene. Here, for the first time, the authors tell the full story of Moore's life and career, drawing on their extensive interviews with him, his personal scrapbooks and their own first-hand memories. With Moore still a hugely popular figure among fans, his story is essential reading for Forest and United supporters, plus anyone with an interest in football history.
