Review: Stephen Fry in America What to say? We've come to expect excellence and best effort from Mr. Fry in all his endevours, and with this book (and DVD), one isn't disappointed. As his disclaimer stipulates, this is merely an overview of one man's journey through the 50 states in the US. He writes with humour and wit (but then?), but also with a growing appreciation of the subject at hand. I understand this journey was done in 8 months time, which is amazing, as this is a massive project. If you're interested in an introduction of American people and the country they live in - and Stephen makes it personal - then I would heartily recommend giving this a read (view the DVD as well!).

Review: This was my first ever disappointment in an Amazon purchase. I ordered the paperback copy because no hardback version was indicated on the Amazon front page display. However the paperback is completely different from the hardback library book which prompted my purchase: it is not a 'soft back' version, but a pulp paperback with groups of colour plates bound in at intervals. The pleasure of 'coffee table' books like this is the care taken by the designer/publisher to interweave the text with the pictures - in this case they are entertaining collages which complement and harmonise with the author's tale. However all is not lost - when logging in to make this gripe I discovered several 'used' hardback copies on the 'Kindle' page, for sale at much less than the price of the new paperback. I have ordered one of these - hopefully when it arrives I will be able to report total satisfaction. I'm writing the extra cost off to experience !! Amazon presenters-look to your laurels!
