Review: This is the ultimate guide book for fans of Stephen King's The Dark Tower a comprehensive and well researched encyclopedia that covers every aspect of the brilliant but sometimes confusing Dark Tower worlds, characters and places and if you are like myself and need a bit of background info then this book is essential. Easy to use and brilliantly written by Robin Furth a longtime researcher for Stephen King, and illustrated with maps this book certainly gives value for money. So if you are reading the Dark Tower may I suggest you give it a try, you won't be disappointed, this volume covers the first four volumes of the Dark Tower with Volume 2 covering the remainder.

Review: This is a heavyweight tome, not intended for light reading. Mostly it's just a long list of names, places & plot situations. I originally read the series as the books came out, over a long period of time, enjoying some & getting bogged down in others. Last year I decided to re-read the lot, including book 8, back to back. I enjoyed the experience immensely! If you read the books with long periods of time between sessions a book like this could help you keep track of what's gone on & I can see why Stephen King needed the info. It contains in order to avoid continuity errors, etc.I bought it thinking it would give me new knowledge & insight into the worlds contained in the mighty work but I'm afraid it was most disappointing on that score. If you're an OCD completist then I suppose this is a 'must have' but if you are a more casual reader then you're better off spending your cash on any SK titles you've not read - or buy a DVD of an SK movie - Dreamcatcher is a great starter or A Good Marriage for something more recent!
