Description: A lyrical, richly illustrated storybook about community and family - set against the backdrop of a seaside fishing village. If you keep walking over the hills and across the fields, you will come to the edge, where the land meets the sea. And on this edge lies a village. This is my home. A young boy watches the grown-ups in his village go about their work. Everyone is busy: the blacksmith, the boat-builder, the baker. But most important of all, he thinks, are the fishermen who bring in the catch. The boy's father is a baker, but he wants to be a daring fishermen when he grows up, brave enough to sail through stormy seas. He asks his father, Have you ever been to sea? An atmospheric look at a traditional way of life, and a timeless reminder that everyone is important, no matter how seemingly small their role. Review: I brought this book as I am interested in the beach village after I did a family tree for someone who's ancestors lived there, also I saw this author interviewed on my local news. It is a beautiful story told with some gorgeous illustrations. It describes the hard work done by all members of the community in the beach village, as other villages up and down the country had the same ethics years ago, it was a hard life but people were so friendly. I love the addition of the recipe from Paula's Grandfather I can't wait to try it out.

Review: Although the colour palette is drawn in subdued hues of blue and purple this in no way makes this a morose tale. An honest account of life set to beautiful lyrical prose that sums up a gentle nostalgic way of life in a small village by the sea. Whilst I think the message of everyone having their own place and being true to who you are might be lost on younger children, I still think they'll be able to appreciate the gorgeous illustrations and simple joy of the beautiful tale. I received a free copy. i leave an honest review.
