Review: Is your child so gruesome, you wonder what on earth you have done to raise a child who loves evil things so much? If so, this is the book for your child. My son just loves these books and this one is no exception. Apparently (according to an 8 year old) a child writes a story about an evil blob and it comes true. SO I'm told, this is a very good concept for a story, when you are 8!

Review: This novel was a bit disappointing purely because it could have been so much better. The concept of The Blob That Ate Everyone is terribly good fun, focusing on a boy who discovers that everything he types on his typewriter comes true. Trouble is, the story is almost entirely build-up. It takes almost half of the novel before the typewriter's power is revealed, and the Blob only makes an appearance in the last couple of chapters. While the novel does do a decent job of creating tension, the short length of the novel made the eventual pay-off feel a bit weak. However, the concept of a typewriter that brings stories to life is incredibly appealing. While this may not be the most original idea, it is one that will readily speak to creative young readers. I mean, what young writer hasn't written an elaborate revenge story about a bully? Or is that just me? Yet, the ending twist felt a little forced. While it was good for a chuckle, and I won't spoil it here, I will say that it's likely to divide readers. Personally, I felt that it didn't make much sense and blunted any impact that this novel might have otherwise had. However, the cast of this Goosebumps book were fairly strong. Zackie is an incredibly likeable character and I certainly found it easy to relate to him, though I did feel that his many phobias could have been better defined. The only thing that I couldn't really understand was why he thought that Adam was his friend. Adam never behaves like a friend at all over the course of the story and spends most of his time bullying Zackie. I don't really understand why Zackie would even give him the time of day. All in all, this wasn't the worst but could have been much stronger. Here's hoping the next instalment is a little better.
