Review: I am a great fan of beautiful books and high quality special editions. The Penguin Clothbound Classics Bronte edition is a fabulous set worthy of space on any collectors bookshelf. The designs are really good and the books are well made and feel fantastic. The box of this set is also very fine with a tasteful design and manufactured to a high standard. The set is easily worthy of a 5 star rating. There is however a problem with this set and the clothbound classics range in general.....The stickers on the back of the books! They damage the books in two ways, firstly they leave a sticky residue on the cloth of the books. This is both sticky and soaks into the cloth cover binding leaving a darker coloured patch where the sticker has been. Secondly the sticker itself pulls the printed paint/ink away from the cloth. Three of the four books in this set had stickers on the back and all three stickers left similar damage. I have added photos of two of the books where the damage is clearly visible. I was also really careful removing the stickers , and did so on the day of purchase. This is a problem that could be easily resolved by either wrapping the individual book in cellophane before applying the sticker, or adding a paper band with the sticker information attached. In fact the books in this set did not need stickers at all. The whole box was wrapped in cellophane anyway. I really want to buy more of these books as there are some super designs. As a collector, these books can never be perfect and puts me off buying further editions.
