Review: I have read all four of the Sam Bourne books so far. Each is a stand alone story with its own characters and so there is no "series" for readers to worry over reading them in a strict chronological order. The first three were heavily religious-based but with such intrigue that there was no need for teh reader to be a devout follower. This latest offering "The Chosen One" is a departure from that theme but still steeped in conspiracy and is totally intriguing and compelling. I loved it and am looking forward to the next offering by this up and coming author who deserves wider acclaim. Of the five books I read on holiday this was the best and ensured page-turning went beyond bed-time. Don't want to dissect the plot as I don't want to spoil it for any future reader. Well worth teh investment.

Review: Mainly about an Irish Immigrant who manages to get a job in the Foreign Office working mainly in the Middle East but becomes part of the Campaign team for a Democratic Presidential Candidate after meeting the candidate and his family just briefly. He gets elected President and he is brilliantly clever with an astounding personality that she is totally devoted and obsessed by him as he is such a wonderful President even after only 6 months in office. She is fired from her job. The President has accusations about his mental health and campaign finances with further wrongdoings to be disclosed by a loner in New Orleans and this information goes public. There are threats of impeachment. The loner is killed and she is taken on his staff by the President and sent to New Orleans to find out what happened to the loner as it is intimated that the President could be involved. Even without any experience or training as a detective she starts an investigation. Of all things she just happens to have a sister in Dublin who is an expert in Computers and shows her how to access the Dark Web (The Dark Web has to be included would you believe) and inevitably she is able to dig up essential information for her inquiry. Two of her colleagues who have been in contact with her over this enquiry end up murdered in Washington and New York. Her boyfriend whom she had ditched when she went to work for the President is resurrected. The President personally tells the Irish Colleen “You are truly a remarkable woman” at the end of her trials and tribulations. I found it very difficult to finish, it was so outlandish.
