Review: I haven't been as captivated by an author since reading the novels of Stig Larson. I love the way Camila Lackberg builds up the characters slowly at first and then as they gradually take form and presence I can almost see and touch them. I invite them into my mind and watch them unfold their narratives with complex dances and missteps and intricately woven patterns.Erica and Patrick struggle and think and work their way to untangling the threads of each problem with the kind of patience and determination needed when the tree lights are unearthed at Christmas. But shock horror at the end of this most exciting story. I can barely comprehend the cliff hanger presented near the conclusion of some fine detective work. One shock I came close to predicting but the other......OMG double shock..... can I bear to read the next book? I think I had better download it immediately. I hope my husband will understand why there is no dinner tonight. I just have to read. It's imperative I find out what happens next.

Review: I admit joining a series six books in is likely to leave a new reader struggling to make sense of the many characters and supporting back stories introduced in earlier episodes. As a consequence, The Drowning took a while to hold my interest. Once it did, I wanted to join the dots and picked up the pace. In truth, I didn't connect with the main characters and became annoyed when discoveries made by our detectives were withheld from me. Perhaps it's personal preference but as a reader of crime fiction, I like to know as much as the detectives investigating the crime. This allows me to participate in the solution. If I had pieced it all together before the protagonists, I would still have read the story to confirm my theories. A good story but not a satisfying read.
