Expelled from the Rangers he has served so loyally, Halt is joined by Will's friend Horace as he travels towards Skandia. On their way, they face many challenges - but Horace knows a thing or two about combat. Soon he begins to attract the attention of knights and warlords for miles around with his uncanny skill. Review: The third book in the series is a great story taking Will and Halt, with their friends, so much deeper than I thought. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Review: Obviously, I am still reading this series, despite starting it without knowing it was for children (I wish Amazon would be clearer about which books are written for a younger audience - now, I know all my recommendations will be for kids fantasy fiction just because I've accidentally bought it a few times) . Anyways I'm stuck for what to read at the moment and this is quite enjoyable so will probs keep on it for a while longer. I do smile about the stereo typical male and female roles and characters, boy are heroes and girls are princesses who need rescuing etc. I liked particularly that a young attractive female is captured as a slave by some rough, thuggish, sweaty vikings, and her honour and virtue never seem to be under threat. In fact, that sort of thing never occurs to anyone!! (Think I watch too much Game of Thrones) Yes, I understand it's for kids, and everything will come good in the end as good defeats evil, and the bad guys always get their comeuppance - and actually that's sometimes quite nice :-)
