Review: What a fantastic, warm and gripping story for young folk! This book wasn’t what I expected but I actually preferred it even more for that reason. I was expecting a fantastical, Lord-of-the-Rings type of thing but it was a much more domestic and cosy kind of adventure. I have it on good authority that the fantasy levels amp up through the series though. I’ll definitely be reading on because I loved the humour, the characters and the story-within-a-story element. Brilliant!

Review: By far the dullest book I've read to my daughter as her bedtime story. She loves all things dragons and so as you can imagine she was drawn to this cover..... This book should have had a picture of squirrels on the cover. While there is mention of clay ornamental dragons, not one 'real' dragon appears until nine pages from the end. The story throughout was tedious. I skipped chunks through sheer boredom. The characters are ridiculous.... An eleven year old girl who acts 6, a college lodger who spends his time playing with the girl and chasing squirrels while missing class and a mother who talks to her lodger like he is a naughty toddler. Normally I would have given up on a book this dull but my daughter wanted to push on in the hope that it would become the thrilling dragon story she'd hoped for. It never did. ...So if you want dragons, don't buy it ....If you want squirrels, you'll love it ....If you have insomnia, read it, you'll be asleep within minutes.
