Review: I was first introduced to this series when I was in hospital with a broken back, and they made perfect reading. Like a comfy pair of slippers and a mug of cocoa, you know exaclty where you are with Mma Ramotswa and her Detective Agency. These gentle stories are free from sex, violence or bad language, and while I don't mind any of these in their place, it's refreshing to read such innocent novels. The main characters are delightful, the atmosphere of Botswana beautifully evoked, and kindness always wins in the end. And if the plots - such as they are - are somewhat interchangeable from one novel to the next, that doesn't really matter. In this novel, there is a problem over an inheritance and another concerning threatening letters sent to the owner of the eponymous Beauty Salon, but in the end, as always, all is well, and we can leave the heroine with her equally kindly motor mechanic husband and a freshly-brewed pot of her favourite bush tea.
