Description: Howard Phillips Lovecraft is beginning to emerge as one of that tumultuous period's most critically fascinating and yet enigmatic figures, writes Alan Moore. But at the time of his death, Lovecraft was maligned by critics and ignored by the public. Leslie S. Klinger reanimates Lovecraft and charts the rise of the pulp writer. Lovecraft's vast body of work | ??a mythos in which humanity is a blissfully unaware speck in a cosmos shared by ancient alien beings | ??is increasingly being recognised as the foundation for American horror and science fiction. With nearly 300 illustrations and more than 1,000 annotations, Klinger illuminates every hidden dimension of 22 of Lovecraft's most canonical works. Waterstones The New Annotated H. P. Review: All I can tell you is this book is huge and very heavy. I glanced at it before wrapping it and there doesn’t seem to be any more artwork inside (which is a shame, because the cover is so beautiful) but it looks very comprehensive. I’ll get an update from my son later, but unlike his graphic novels, this is gonna take a while and be much better value for money.* *nothing like spending forty quid on a graphic novel they’ve finished by Christmas dinner.

Review: It's been compelling so far though I've got quite a long way to go with it. I started with "The Shadow out of Time" and "At The Mountains of Madness" and I'm gradually working my way though. The reason it's only getting four stars is that I have the kindle version, so I don't get the colour pictures and the notes are stuck at the end of each story instead of by the side of it as you go through. If you have the book shelf space, I would recommend the hardback version despite the fact that it's the size of two house bricks. I had a look though a copy and it's so much better. A fine, compelling collection of vintage horror/sci fi. The writing style, although from a very different era, does not detract from it at all. If anything, it adds a bit of spookiness.
