Review: It’s the responsibility of modern writers, publishers and illustrators to stamp out dated sexism in literature rather than giving it a new life in a “playful” way, as described in this book. Particularly where children are concerned. Here’s an excerpt from one of the “charming” poems in this book: “Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie, Kissed the girls and made them cry, When the boys came out to play, Georgie Porgie ran away.” I don’t think I need to explain why I will NOT be reading this to my daughter. And don’t get me started on the one about cutting off rat tails. Do not recommend.
