Review: I just love Philip Pullman’s characters, plot and sense of timing - every chapter makes you want to read the next. There are few writers who make their characters stand up and demand your attention.

Review: Enjoyable but slightly unsatisfying second in the series. The ending felt rushed and I couldn't fathom why any of the characters would behave in the way they did in the final scenes. It was all too easy.
