Review: I have bought a few of the Ladybird Read it Yourself books and really enjoy reading them with my 2 and half year old - except this one. As they are stories for learning to read, you generally need to work a bit to bring them to life for younger, pre-reading age children, which is fine, but I dislike the constant repetition of "you are ugly, go away" in this book. They are the only words on the page and this isn't a phrase I want to instill in a child. There is nothing a bit more uplifting either about how the ugly duckling is the best swimmer as there is in the original. A shame because my daughter loves the illustrations.
