Review: "Then Came You" is another one of Lisa Kleypas's highly entertaing Regency romances. The storyline is interesting and full of adventureous action. It starts with an unusual behaviour for a lady in Regency England.Lily Lawson jumps into the dirty Thames to rescue her hat. Everybody is shocked, all the society matrons and all the dandies. So is Lord Alex Raiton whome Lily reminds of his late fiance.Lily is a lady only in name. She is beautiful, clever and very reckless. She doesn't care about her reputation among the ton. She hunts, she gambles and pursues all her unladylike interests.Alex is an attractive member of the aristocracy, rich and very serious. He detests Lily's behaviour but he can't resist her charm. They meet again when Lily visits his country estate uninvited in order to save her younger sister Penelope from an arranged marriage to Lord Raiton. She knows that Penny loves someone else and that her live would be unhappy with Alex. Lily hates men but she thinks she understands them. She succeeds in her plans to destroy the engagement but she gets closer to Alex in the process than she intended. She has her dark and painful secret from the past and all her reckless and desperate behaviour is the reason for that. Alex is furious, he wants to punish her and he chases her to London. He is not in love with Penelope but he thinks that he needs a shy passive little wife like her. The truth is very different. He is pulled to Lily in many different ways so strongly that he can't resist her. These two strong and unusual people are struggling to hate and love each other at the same time. They try hard to resist each other but their powerful emotions prevail at the end. Their happiness doesn't come easily. They have to earn each other's trust, respect and love. They both let go of their painful past in the process and change for their happiness' sake. This is a very fast paced romance and you get to know and like the characters very soon. I liked the secondary character of Derek Craven, Lily's friend and an exclusive gambling club owner. I am very pleased to know that he's the hero in another book of Lisa Kleypas's "Dreaming of You". THEN CAME YOU is an exciting Regency romance showing the reader that it was possible for a woman to live as a man in those times but it wasn't always forgiven. Reputations ment everything to the ton and they never accepted those who didn't followed the rules.Ms Kleypas has written another wonderful historical romance full of exciting verbal and sensual battles between the sexes. I highly recommend it to all fans of this sub-genre.

Review: It’s been an age since I’ve read this LK book, and on a night where I couldn’t get to sleep this was a lovely escape. This is a book high on drama, so before picking it up ensure you’re in the mood, I certainly was. If you want a book super high on juicy drama that you know is unrealistic (especially given the era the book/characters are situated in), and for that reason is difficult to put down this is the book for you. Reckless/scandalous beauty Lily Lawson and Alex, Lord Wolverton clash from the very moment they meet, with the underlying attraction between the two is wound tight, simmering beneath the surface of each interaction/argument. Alex is engaged to be married to Lily’s quieter and more obedient younger sister, even though her heart belongs to another, and so Lily decides to do all she can to ensure that her sister escapes the tyrannical grasp of Lord Wolverton. Alex and Lily, I enjoyed as main characters, and I loved how Lily was able to make Alex do things that were so out of character that it had is servants gobsmacked. The scene where Alex is throwing Lily’s clothes out the window was pretty amusing. There are some moments in this book, that this time around had me frowning and shifting uncomfortably (I don’t recall noticing them in the past), but boy I did this time, for example, some of Alex’s behaviour was really not well done, take the first kiss between the two, it made Lily’s mouth bleed due to the force used – yeah not good, and not romantic in my eyes. I loved how supportive Alex was once he finally knew Lily's big secret, and once wed he doesn’t expect her to have a personality transplant. I do wish the dynamics between Lily and her parents had been addressed better than they were, they had set her aside, and consider her outrageous (and not in a good way), and yet suddenly there she is in front of them after years, and things are mostly fine, the scenes with her parents just didn’t work for me. Also, Derek in this book comes off as a crappy friend, but I got to say he is a character I enjoy in the book – Dreaming of You. The epilogue is always a heart-warming read, and there are some lovely emotional moments in the book. Potential trigger: Kidnapping of a child and a scene involving dubious consensual sex.
