Review: Great series, own all books, would highly recommend

Review: My daughter picked that series up at her school's library, but because she was only 7 at the time, books were a little hard for her to read and became our bedtime story, when I read her books of a little higher level. She loves the story and could not wait to get book #6. From my perspective, however, I do not think I would buy another book from this series or of this author for that matter. The last book is... borderline boring. There is n depth in the adventures or dialog and it jumps too quickly from one character to another. That, of course, is just my opinion. Remember, I am reading this book as an adult, so I am used to a better language and more complicated story. I could get over it. What repels me from this series, however, is the casual inserts on homosexuality or transgender. In this latest book, for example, there is a mention of "non-binary" kid. Later, that child screamed, which in a book was referred to as "they screamed". Was it really necessary to include it in the book for elementary school kids? Was the author following the modern trend and wanted to be "cool". These are serious issues that go on in our society. I prefer to talk about those things with my children when they are ready. I do not want my 8 year old to to read that phrase in a children's book and treat it as something normal or obvious. I am quite disappointed and it is definitely the first and last book from this series I have bought.
