Review: Our 6-year old has a Great Fire of London project at school - a typical favourite in the early years classes. So we have created timber framed houses that are on fire, we’ve visited Pudding Lane and climbed the Monument. And he has seen nice educational Youtube cartoons on the subject. He is close to becoming a Great Fire expect. However his reading skills are lagging a little. He is simply hard-pushed to read more than a few words. So given his familiarity with the material it seemed a good idea to add one of these excellent Usborne books to our growing collection and use it for guided reading. It worked mostly, he was quite engaged. However the sentences and some of the words are still a little too complex for him. The font size however is big enough and the storyline, as ever in this range, is very clear. The Usborne books are of high-quality given the hard cover, the shiny thick paper and many excellent brightly coloured illustrations. The page finder ribbon is very helpful as well. This book also has a 1666 map of London on the front, which makes it even more interesting for you residents of the city. Most of all its very good value for money.
