Review: How I wish the film had told the true story; this story.I I went to the Wildlife Park in the bad old days before Benjamin Mee took over. It was grim, it was a sad place. When I went after it was saved I remember looking at the bears. The previous time I saw them they sat at the front of their enclosure waving their paws for peanuts, sold in the shop. I said to the keeper "These are not the same bears?" He looked so proud as he said "Yes. Yes, they are." Such a delight to re-read this book. Please read it and please visit.

Review: I remember watching and loving Ben's Zoo on tv, I wish that they'd do another series. I looked forward to, and watched, the movie and then I found this book. I'm pleased that I read it but I found it frustrating and at times boring. There are very few chapters in the book, and even fewer breaks within those chapters which meant that either you read for a long time before stopping, or you had to stop at a random point when Mee was likely to be rambling on about something or other. To me this made it difficult to read and hindered my enjoyment. Mee did tend to go on and on about things, some interesting and some not (pages about peacocks for example). Some really interesting points were skimmed over and other things were repeated and repeated throughout. As some other reviews have commented, I too wondered the reason for Mee writing this book. I expect that in the large part it was financial but also as a platform to preach to readers about Mee's beliefs and troubles. It's a shame as this book was a great opportunity and it feels wasted. The Kindle edition does not include the photos that the paperback comes with.
