What are the core features of an attachment-friendly school? How can we promote inclusion and positively affect learning outcomes amongst pupils in need, at risk, in care and adopted? Loiuse Bomber, teacher, therapist, trainer and author of the critically acclaimed number one selling book on behavioural difficulties Inside I'm Hurting, draws on her extensive experience in working with these children and young people. Review: I bought this because my adopted 5 year old son with attachment difficulties was struggling at school, resulting in some disruptive behaviours. This book, although written for teaching professionals, is also readable for parents with a basic understanding of attachment difficulties. It is clearly set out and each chapter covers different challenges that occur through the course of a school day, and gives examples from both primary and secondary aged pupils. This book enabled me to go to the school with strategies for reducing his anxiety which has improved his behaviour, so much so that the school have purchased a copy for their own use. This book is a must for teachers and SENCOs with adopted and looked after children within their school, and a fabulous resource for parents who have difficulty explaining to schools how they can help their children with attachment difficulties.

Review: I already have a good knowledge of attachment theory as I come from a social work background. The book provides an excellent source of information regarding using attachment focused interventions within schools. I am now working in a mainstream school and find the difficulty is working within a system that does not support these types of interventions preferring to rely on rewards and sanctions. I would say it is necessary for leadership to have the necessary training for this to be effective as they have the power to make changes.

Description: When a little girl sits down at her desk one day to write a story, she struggles to find her inspiration. Luckily for her there's a whole host of potential picture-book characters who want to be the star of her story and make their cases convincingly. There's the magical, proud unicorn with sparkly hooves and a glittery horn. There are the big, burly bears hosting a picnic, the loveable llamas in pyjamas, the stylish sloth, the lion, the penguins, and even a roar-some, claw-some dinosaur . But, unnoticed by the little girl, an even littler flea is hopping and jumping around, hoping to be the one she chooses to write a story about. What about me? it cries. With all the big characters and commotion, will the flea ever be noticed? Set in fun, rhyming couplets, What About Me? Said the Flea celebrates the power of imagination, determination, and the good things that come in teeny tiny packages. Waterstones What About Men

Price: £10.99

Brand: Waterstones

Description: As any feminist who talks about the problems of girls and women will know, the first question you will ever be asked is 'But what about MEN?'. After eleven years of writing bestsellers about women and dismissing this question, having been very sure that the concerns of feminism and men are very different things, Caitlin Moran realised that this wasn't quite right, and that the problems of feminism are also the problems of, yes, men. So, what about men? Why do they only go to the doctor if their wife or girlfriend makes them? Why do they never discuss their penises with each other - but make endless jokes about their balls? What is porn doing for young men? Is their fondness for super-skinny jeans leading to an epidemic of bad mental health? Are men allowed to be sad? Are men allowed to lose? Have Men's Rights Activists confused 'power' with 'empowerment'? And is Jordan B Peterson just your mum - but with some mad theory about a lobster? In this book, Caitlin intends to answer all this and more - because if men haven't yet answered the question 'What About Men?', it's going to be down to a busy woman to do it.

Waterstones What About Me Women and the Catholic Church

Currently out of stock

Price: £12.50

Brand: Waterstones

Description: One woman's investigation of the role of women in the Christian Church since its inception, as she counters the Roman Catholic church's argument for excluding them from the priesthood Details the gradual exclusion of women from positions of power as the Roman Catholic Church evolved. Accessible account from the viewpoint of an ordinary woman in the Church. Cover quotes from Mary Mc Aleese, Fr. Tony Flannery and Mary T. Malone. What About Me? Women and the Catholic Church is an exploration by an ordinary woman, born into the Catholic faith of the arguments given to exclude her from ministry. Using her research skills, Sharon examines the New Testament, Christian writings and Papal documents. It is a personal quest to shed light on the story of women in the Christian movement from its earliest days to the present. The objective of the book is to explore, inform, speculate and question and it should appeal to a general audience. The context of the book is the 2010 move by Pope Benedict XVI to elevate the 'crime' of ordaining women to Catholic ministry and the subsequent censoring of religious personnel who questioned this edict. This book details a quest to find out where the strong antipathy towards women in the Roman Catholic Church's institutional mindset comes from.
