Review: Pat Hutchins, “Rosie’s Walk” has been a classic picture book since first published in 1968. Now, in 2015, we have a sequel to this story at last and, I am pleased to say, it is delightful. To be honest, when I first heard about this, I was a little concerned – this is following on from such a classic that it could be a disappointment. However, this is totally in the style of the original – from artwork to storyline – despite the fact that there has been nearly fifty years between the two books. When we meet up with Rosie the hen again, she has laid an egg and it is hatching, but Rosie cannot find her baby chick. Where can she be? Rosie searches, while her poor chick manages to avoid many calamities along the way. Children will love the humour, and hint of danger, while the ending of this story ties in with the first book beautifully. If your children love the classic Rosie picture book, then they will certainly also enjoy this.

Review: It is a perfectly enjoyable picture book, but that is all. It is not of the sane outstanding qyality as the amazing Rosie's Walk. The illustrations are brighter but do not seem as well defined and uncluttered as those in RW. I dont understand the necessity to introduce a kitten, a fish etc It would have worked much better with only the fox cub as the chick's adversary. Despite these problems the children loved the chick half out of her shell wandering around completely oblivious to her surroundings. They recognised Pat Hutchins style of illustrations and were quite happy to hear the story, but it definitely doesnt bear up to repeated re-tellings like RW does!
