Description: This groundbreaking book unleashes a brilliant new plan for permanently curing heartburn by relieving the root cause of the problem: low stomach acid. The fact is that heartburn is caused by too little stomach acid -- not too much, as many doctors profess. As explained in this book, the current practice of reducing stomach acid may be a temporary fix, but this fix comes at a cost to our long-term health that is being ignored by the pharmaceutical companies, the FDA, and the thousands of physicians that prescribe anti-acid drugs like Prilosec, Tagamet, Zantac, Pepcid, and others. Review: This is one of the best books I have read on the treatment of GERD/GORD. The author goes beyond acid reflux and make many connections of low stomach acid and a number of common ailments ranging from asthma to rheumatoid arthritis. These connections, unobvious at first, fall logically into place once you read the authors’ explanations, and follow up the cited studies. I note a number of previous reviewers complained about the comments the author made about the pharmaceutical industry. I feel those reviewers were being unfair to the author, who matter of factly describes the issues created by big pharma and the FDA around the ability to get the right treatment. My view is if it’s true it should be pointed out, and the author was justified in doing that. Furthermore, it goes a long way to help patients understand why the current standards of treatment are ineffective, and why the author’s approach has efficacy. It is also helpful for open minded professionals to understand this; I know a number of pharmacists and medical professionals who would otherwise ask why the author’s unconventional approach is the right one over that of those who spend billions on research.

Review: I bought this book after doing a lot of research on stomach acid. I have recently been diagnosed with a lax oesophageal sphincter, and this book mentions it and GERD a lot. It does have some compelling arguments in there and I agree with a lot of what it is saying, and it is quite helpful and recommends things you can try to get your acid back to normal levels. However, the reason I haven't given this book a higher star rating is because I feel like it is heavily biased towards its' own views. It constantly repeats itself about how pharmaceutical companies are making so much money (true) and in many graphs shows how harmful medications are. I just feel like it is pushing the subject a bit too much rather than giving facts on both sides. I prefer more balanced books myself.
