Review: Bought the Book for a 7-Year-old and he absolutely loves it. He read over 3 chapters in a day and cannot get enough. He read Harry Potter books before which are even a bit harder reading difficulty and did fine so he has no problem understanding this book.

Review: Want to start off by saying I understand 100% this is a book intended for kids somehow. That said, I heard a lot of people say they love this book series and as there have been other "kids books" i've loved despite being in my 30s, decided to give this one a shot as I'm a big kid that still loves books about dragons. It's.. kind of an awful book. Awful in the same way Peter Jackson's The Hobbit was awful - it really feels like the writer has no idea if they want it to be a gritty dark book, or a kid's book, so they randomly flop from one to the other with no coherant flow. The book assumes the reader is an idiot constantly, which is common in kid's books that I guess assume kid = stupid, and thus overexplain everything and leave little to no nuance, and the characters have very childish interactions with one another.. and then literally next sentence there will be gratuitous descriptions of visceral violence and gore more on par with the sort of thing you might find in Game of Thrones. If the author could pick a direction and go with it, I'd like it a lot more, but the tonal blindness makes this book frustrating to read. It wasn't SO bad I wasn't able to finish the first book, but it was bad enough I'm absolutely uninterested in continuing to the second. If you're a dragon-loving adult like me, I'd reccomend Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey or Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambley but I wouldn't reccomend Wings of Fire even to the intended age group
