Review: A wonderfully enjoyable story to share with little ones. This book was purchased by myself for my five year old daughter to listen to (not read independently). Winnie-the-Pooh is a timeless classic for a reason: simple plots; engagingly beautiful illustrations; and wonderful language throughout. A perfect bedtime book to share and unwind with. Main points: - The chapters are just short enough to keep a child engaged, any younger than 5 and I hazard a guess that some children may find the chapters too long and some of the interchange between author and Christopher Robin too complex to grasp. - The illustrations are breathtakingly beautiful, complement the text fantastically and appear frequently enough to keep the young reader engaged. I personally experienced a real rush of nostalgia turning the pages of this story again as my adult self. - The book is A4 in size and too heavy for a five year old to independently hold and navigate given it is 400+ pages long. Far better to snuggle up with the adult holding the book and the child following along. Obviously, the older the child the less of an issue this is. - The language and phrases are different to modern-day vernacular and, as such, grants access to vocabulary that is often unspoken in present-day society. Pooh's explanations and language are brilliant and really draw out his character. - Delivery was fast and the presentation of the book was perfect, i.e. the sleeve it was sent in was undamaged and the designs are lovely. It looks great on the bookshelf if this is something that concerns you. Cons: - The size of the book. It is too heavy for a young child to independently hold for a sustained length of time. The older your child the less of an issue this is. - 5+ is possibly the youngest age I would introduce a child to this version of Winnie the Pooh, some of the other Disney versions are better for younger ages. Hope this helps! :)
