Description: In Your Home Izakaya, chef Tim Anderson explores the 'anything goes' concept of izakaya by showcasing over 100 flavour-packed recipes. Izakaya began as sake stores that allowed their customers to drink on the premises, and, over time, they began to serve food as well. The food is simple to prepare but big on flavour, making it conducive to sociable snacking in between gulps of booze. From Radish and Watercress Salad and Sweetcorn with Soy Sauce Butter, to Spicy Sesame Ramen Salad and Udon Carbonara with Bacon Tempura, the recipes are impressive yet simple to achieve and no specialist equipment is needed. Plus, it includes a guide on how to stock a Japanese bar as well as how to knock up a few choice cocktails. Full of delicious dishes, Your Home Izakaya is perfect for anyone wanting to make show-off food fit for a dinner party with minimum fuss and maximum fun.

Review: "Your Home Izakaya" is a welcome and unique addition to my cookbook shelf! A tasty collection of Japanese recipes to accompany cocktails, beer or non-alcoholic teas, this book offers a mix of light bites, richer dishes, soul-nurturing hotpots and drinks to suit whatever the day or mood. I appreciate a cookbook that offers insight into the author's motivation and inspiration, and Tim Anderson always delivers - his writing style makes you feel like he's sitting in your kitchen, chatting at your table while you potter away chopping and cooking. Because of this, every recipe seems doable and delicious - and fun! Always fun! Perhaps my favourite feature is the meal suggestions at the bottom of every recipe - rather than making one or two small plates and wondering what else to eat, the book cleverly and helpfully offers recipes and page numbers to easily create a meal for two (as well as drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to have alongside). Sounds like a minor detail, but as I read through the book and mark dozens of recipes, I don't have to wonder which ones will work best together - Tim has done that for me! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, it is a gem!
