Review: I bought this for my two grandson's (5 and 3) and they love it. I went for a British company as I wanted an unbiased view of the world and not an American orientated one. In my opinion the only downside is the American spellings, especially as we are teaching my 5 year old to spell, but I guess they have to cater for the American market which is a shame.

Review: We're huge fans of Usborne books but unfortunately this particular book was rather disappointing that I am considering returning it. Maps shape our understanding of the world and whilst I admit we come from a more geographic background I still expected some sort of in-depth representation even if this is a children's book. For example, I found it rather odd that some countries and capitals were not mentioned causing my barely 6 year old to genuinely question this. I.e. England, Scotland, Wales, and Northen Ireland were not labeled at all even though there was enough space to draw and label "sheep" and a " Highland piper", surely some of that time and effort could have been used to label Scotland and its capital. Another instance is on the zoomed in illustration of Asia wherein both Cyprus and Lebanon apparently lack capitals. As I mentioned, I don't expect a deep and accurate representation of disputed territories i.e. the labelling of Israel but not the west bank or Gaza strip but I did expect at least the UK to be represented. Another issue we had was with the book being overly busy. I know it's meant to be a children's book but there were so many drawings everywhere that we spent a lot of time searching for the actual written parts amongst the many animals and sea creatures etc. I wish I had been able to look inside this before purchasing. The 3/5 is for the introductory information of our universe , the child friendly explainations, and the presentation of the book. It's sturdy, paper is of good quality and colours are appealing to age group.
