Description: Flowers by Rosie Sanders is a large-format book that showcases over 80 of her finest flower paintings in exquisite detail. Often compared to the artist Georgia O' Keeffe, Rosie Sanders's botanical paintings lie at the extreme end of botanical art - they exude dynamism and sensuality in every brushstroke and their richness of colour sets her apart from her contemporaries. In this beautifully illustrated book, Rosie exhibits a selection of flowers, from tulips to orchids, roses to irises, anemones to amaryllis, and illuminates them with fascinating and skillful uses of perspective and light. This large-format book showcases her finest paintings in exquisite detail and they are accompanied by excellent and accessible scientific commentary. Also included is an introduction by renowned Swiss botanist Dr. Andreas Honegger. This book is perfect for artists want to get a closer look at a master's brushstrokes, textures and colour in paintings, or readers who are interested in contemporary botanical art. Chapters include:1. Diversity in the Garden 2. Dark Flowers: the Magic of Night 3. A Fascination of Orchids 4. Lilies in Spring 5. Varieties of Belladonna 6. In Search of the Black Iris. Review: I can understand why the work of Rosie Sanders is compared to that of Georgia O’Keefe. However, despite the fact that I am not an art critic, I feel that her work is far superior to O’Keefe’s. For one thing, there is a great deal more of it judging by the book(s). For another, she paints in water colour - such a difficult medium and worked so beautifully. Almost every fabulously printed page had me gasping in awe. I have to admit that I would love to be able to paint like this and would give my eye teeth to watch this lady painting for a couple of days. Never mind. I have this fantastic book to copy and learn from. By far the best book I have on flower painting. Well worth the price.

Description: Award-winning and hugely popular artist Rosie Sanders showcases the beauty of the rose in her follow up to Rosie Sanders Flowers. Over 80 stunning paintings and sketches are shown for the first time. The artist writes a personal letter on each of her rose paintings (to be given unopened to the final recipient or buyer of the painting). Many of these personal letters sit alongside the paintings, as they explain the creative and emotional process she went through to create it. The book is a revealing insight into the artist's muse and the author's sketches and drawings are also included to show the full artistic process. The book is introduced by an extended essay on the resonance of the rose - all across the world - in our art, literature, poetry, folklore and gardens. The rose emblem is timeless and this book not only celebrates its beauty in art but tells the story of the rose as one of nature's most powerful motifs. • Waterstones Sanders of the River

    Price: £6.99

    Brand: Waterstones

Description: As a symbol of the British crown, Commissioner Sanders governs the affairs of Colonial Nigeria, and becomes the target of both internal and external threats. Sanders of the River is one of Edgar Wallace's earliest successes focusing on the colonial experience and West African life. District Commissioner Sanders struggles to maintain peace and prosperity within Colonial Nigeria. As a British ruler, he must manage the crown's expectations as well as the interests of the Nigerian people. Sanders attempt at fair and just authority is often challenged by skeptic natives and outside forces. At his most vulnerable, he faces a political upheaval that may push the colony to the brink of war. Sanders of the River illustrates the tumultuous relationship between the British Empire and its African colonies. While some locals are intrigued by Commissioner Sanders, others are weary of his true intentions. He represents Western ideals which have historically sewn discord within the tribal communities. Influenced by Wallace's own travels, Sanders of the River explores imperialism from both a foreign and domestic perspective. This popular tale spawned multiple sequels including The People of the River (1911) and The River of Stars (1913). The initial story was also adapted for film in 1935 and went on to become a critical and commercial success. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Sanders of the River is both modern and readable.
