Review: I got this for my niece who is very into horses at the moment, and I read it before giving it to her. I think it will appeal very much to that particular group of young teenage girls who are going through a pony-mad phase... it is well written, with likeable and believable characters. The only quibble I have with it is its predictable ending. I also used to ride and show competitively; one of the reasons I stopped was I couldn't live with the ruthless drive for ribbons and cups at the cost of everything else... least of all the well-being of the horse. It would have been nice if Casey had actually pulled up her horse Storm during the Badminton Trials because it was in his best interests- this to me would have been a more valuable lesson learned for young readers. That winning isn't everything- the horse should ALWAYS be the priority. Having witnessed horses that were left damaged, crippled, or on one occasion even having to be destroyed because of over-intensive training, (and twenty-five years later I can still remember his name- poor Henry!) it would have been nice to have been left with a different outcome.
