Description: Merlin's epic quest continues as he journeys to Constantinople in search of his father. Myrddion Emrys of Segontium is the product of a brutal rape, but when King Vortigern hints at his father's identity, Myrddion embarks on a journey across France and Italy to Constantinople. It is a voyage that is to turn the young healer into a man of great renown. Serving under General Flavius Aetius at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains, Myrddion saves the lives of thousands of warriors and, on his arrival in Rome, he heals many more, including Cleoxenes, Envoy to Emperor Theodosius of the East, on his way to a delegation with Attila the Hun. But a deadlier conflict between Emperor Valentinian of the West and Senator Petronius Maximus is still to come and Myrddion must use all his strength to carry out his work in a world that is evil. Review: This astounding book is the 2nd volume of the wonderful Prophecy (Merlin) trilogy. Storytelling is again of an excellent quality, because the author uses her knowledge and learning to the best of her ability, and whether you agree with her or not. at least she dares to give us her account and her version of events that are taking place in this important part of history and the characters involved. It's another fascinating tale about Myrddion Merlinus, who's mother was raped by a Roman aristocrat, but who now as a young grown-up man sets sail to the Roman Empire because he's determined to uncover his father's identity. His journey along with his loyal followers will take them through Gaul, Rome, Ravenna and Constantinople and this same journey will surely test their skills and strengths to the limit to survive it all. In Gaul Merlin finds himself oath-bound to the Roman General Flavius Aetius to relieve the suffering of the Roman soldiers, while the Romans themselves are trying very hard to beat Attila's Huns at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains. Later on in Rome there's an even deadlier conflict between Emperor Valentinian of the West and Senator Petronius Maximus which Merlin must somehow seem to survive so that he can escape the deadly riots that will certainly follow in Rome, and that will the beginning of the end of the Roman Empire of the West. So Merlin and his followers set off for another journey that will take them from Rome via Ravenna to Constantinople, where he will perform his magical healing skills for the Emperor of the East, until the time has come for him to go back to Britain again, his final destination and the place where he wants to fulfil his great promise for the Britons. Recommended, for this is a marvellous book about the life and achievements of this most (real or not) legendary figure, and that's why I like to call this book "Mighty Merlin Part 2"!

Review: Dragged on interminably. I wondered if it would ever come to the point. Not until the last chapters. I am sure the author did a great deal of research but, although a lover of history, I found that I couldn't have cared less about the fall of the Rome. It did aid me to fall asleep.
